# How Expiry Works in Zas: The 5-Day Rule

> Every item in Zas deletes itself after 5 days for accounts and 2 days for anonymous sessions. Pins pause the countdown. Nothing expires silently.

Zas deletes every item automatically after a fixed lifetime. This is not a trash folder or a retention policy. It is the core behavior of the product. Your files are just passing through.

## Expiry times

| Session type             | Item lifetime |
| ------------------------ | ------------- |
| Account (Free, Pro, Max) | 5 days        |
| Anonymous                | 2 days        |

## The expiry ring

Every item displays a 5-segment ring, one segment per day. As each day passes, a segment disappears. When the last segment is gone, the item is deleted permanently. This ring is the brand signature of Zas.

## Pins pause the countdown

You can pin an item to pause its expiry. The countdown stops immediately. When you release the pin, the countdown resumes from exactly the time left. If an item had two days remaining when pinned, it still has two days when released.

<Note>
  Pins are limited by your plan. You earn extra pins when new members join your shared channels, capped at +20.
</Note>

## Nothing expires silently

Zas shows you the remaining lifetime before you send. You always know how long an item will last. There are no surprise deletions and no hidden grace periods.
